In my understanding, informational websites are the type of sites those display Site Categories on Home Page and each sub page holds one page only. To get to next pages either a user click on related links or look for site sub categories in the margins or use site search. 

Unlike blogs where we display multiple posts on home pages and its daily changing, an information website home page is often static and changes less frequently.

Good SEO means what I understand is you are making site for audience and not search engines.

So me let me dissect SEO tips for Informational Websites, I suppose you have one and these small tips will build your online brand.

In this area display your site name and logo which you obviously do. Below give space for your service and products. If you display banner one banner could do well here. You can split this banner as per your requirements.

In this section display Site Search Options. And below search widget place all your site categories. Next give space to latest posts and latest updates etc. You can divide home page in multiple blocks.

Margins Area Home Page SEO tips for Informational Websites

If you post regularly chose right margin to show post thread, also you can show here popular posts etc. Suppose you have a blog, you can display blog snippets in this area.

In the left margin display important site sub categories that you think are important but not appearing on home page body. Also you can use this area to display newsletter subscription, feed button etc. 

Footer Zone Home Page SEO tips for Informational Websites

Here display your contact methods. Contact Form, Your Social Media Links etc. Also in this space display pages like privacy policy and similar.

Keep your home page in a such manner such that a surfer like to slow scroll your website to reach footer. She does not leave your home page without going from section to section.

Optimize your home page for mobile devices and make sure that there are no broken links. Your home page should give window to every site sections and sub sections. It should be reader friendly, user friendly and interesting. Optimize your website home page for faster load.

  • fast loading across all devices.
  • inviting Call To Action.

  • no broken links, that's a sure turn off.

People come to information websites to get quick and easy information and to solve a problem quickly and efficiently.

While writing this I suppose you may have some 20 Site Categories and may be 1000 pages holding some information true to your knowledge and use worthy. And this is gateway to your small business.
