Are you a digital nomad? If you travel a lot, then this article is not for you. Instead you should share your experiences here. If you have written something then perhaps sharing a link will do a lot of help.
However, if you are not the one and planning to travel a lot, or may be less, whatever in your capacity you will face many challenges.
Living space
I am not talking about Sweden or Singapore. My experience says in Indian cities and if you are Indian finding a place to sit and work will be difficult. Search for the place before you set in. This should be a huge challenge if you have no property or things like home.
Internet
5G is still a myth, 4G may be not in Tier 1 Cities for example Mumbai or Delhi, however even in famous tourist places for example say Goa getting a decent internet for work and far from main town areas will be challenging. And the main town aka city side rent will be skyrocketing.
Lightweight laptop
If you depend a lot on a laptop it should be lightweight for travel and work too. So you can put it anywhere. Spaces are very small and if you are on a tight budget it may be a challenge. A tight budget is when you earn less but need to spend more. Indian cities are very expensive. If you are a freelancer, entrepreneur and writer, this factor is extremely important. In mega towns you pay for everything including drinking water.
Living spaces, private versus community living
Being a laptop worker for example writer/editor you will need to work most of the time. If it's your bread butter and you do not have many sources of income. In addition, be ready to answer everyone, what work you do. 85% of people won’t be able to understand. So roughly you will not be taken as a trusted person. Work from home and you are supposed to be someone who earns black money.
High Cost
Go hotel, hostel or a landlord, prices will be nearly double for you. People have the impression like Oh, this guy is making money from a laptop without working, so let's ask for as high a rent as possible. Even staff that are supposed to do every work as part of the job will be interested in tipping first and all the time. Pay tip once, borrow trouble for everyday. And then too you won’t get basic help.
Security
It's your own risk. Everywhere, when traveling or working from a small space or big your safety must be your priority, Do not share everything based on trust. You can talk, walk, and sip a cola together. But keep your mouth shut on important matters related to work and family etc.
Cowork spaces
Very costly. Will try to trick you, ask for heavy deposits like 2/3 months advance rental and other costs. What you will get, you will know later. Nobody bothers about customer satisfaction. Add 18% of GST as a bliss. Branded once are not for real time workers and small once will give you similar experience as a typical landlord gives.
It never means you should not take on such challenges. Life is full of challenges. But consider these points and your own points, of course you have some, know your weak areas that may affect your work so you can keep moving.
I am saying this from my own experience, different people have different needs. Perhaps you will have better and positive experiences to share. Life will be very boring without challenges. These are day to day struggles you experience out home. Keep a work-life balance. Hack Gaps.
