How to build a business with minimum resources

Note: This article is not for everyone. Read at your own risk.

Farmers' protests are ongoing in India. Precisely Indian Capital New Delhi is filled with farmers, protesters and supporters. In childhood, I learnt from text books that India is Agrarian Economy. And justified this statement my own ways, the young kid in me.

If I walk from my home towards East may be 10s of Kms then there is all land, land for agriculture, towards West its all forest, towards South may be forest with Lions but if I go towards North 7 km then there is market and Railways. So less railways/market, more land and hence India's economy is based on agriculture. Though this supposition was purely childish. But in my teens I realized its not untrue either. Geography was there to prove the facts. And to my surprise later I learnt boys and girls learn Agriculture as a Subject and then got to know Ag Sci is also taught in America. For me land was something on which I will work to buy my dream car.

Hey, that was a discovery for me. My family depends on Agriculture for food and other needs.

From all those thoughts I questioned sometime to my parents why there is no one to buy our potatoes  and pulses or mango at better price so I can get a good cycle to ride or get new shoes. That is very-very young boy of me. All play, eat, fun and study and study little more so mother do not beat.

Now when I am writing this post from this employer provided laptop with some data and at the same time farmers are crying in pain and I can't do much other than speaking, one question is continuously hitting my mind, why farmers cannot get minimum price for food grains. They are asking price / compensation for the produce and not a freebie.

The way Union Government is behaving is a failed management and a result of arrogance added with lack of knowledge and vision.

Ask any minister in the government if his / her work will be priced lesser the than salary of a teacher, will that person still chose to work as politician or jump to teaching or other profession. If farmers won't get price why they will chose to work on farms?

Government as a whole is a system driven by best minds to make people get going at least by definition. If people are not happy then its not the fault of people but its the fault of managers aka Government. This is time of the year when people need to look after farms and they are not willingly on roads. They are unhappy so they are on roads, insecure, doubtful and clueless. But they are sure about one thing, they are not getting / not going to get minimum value for the produce so as to sustain livelihood.

Any better administrator may have tried best to solve the problems so the farmers can get back to farms, get back to homes. When you hurl baton, shell tear gas, dug roads so your own people can't reach you this clearly shows worst of the administration. Please mind the gap in a company people are appointed by CEOs and recruiters. But here direction is opposite, government is selected by people to work for welfare of everyone. To take care for everything that relates to man, machine or nature.

If you are not available to listen to your own people you can't expect them to listen or believer in you either.

India is agrarian economy, an universal truth and our economics cannot roll without support and output from best people in the profession and those are farmers. They make significant part of our GDP both directly and indirectly.

I see this crisis in a similar manner as when a manager does not look after the human resources of the company but carry all arrogance on shoulders, ignore workmates, take customers for granted, suppose directors are fool, believes in self superiority and thus paves the way for downfall of the company. Farmers are stakeholders in Indian Economy. If stakeholders are not happy you cannot expect any magic to happen. Same is true when you are building a business.

I suppose you are still reading this article and you are interested in building a business and a brand. Productivity is key to build your brand and do business. If you are not productive enough you cannot build a business. And to become productive you must need to learn from others. All alone you cannot perform all tasks. You need best brains available to work on the product so it can solve problems of your potential customers or may be of the the world.

You need to hire and work with better human resources. You need to get people who not only work with you for salary but can stand by you when you need them. You need to build that trust so your people can advocate your brand.

Resources stay with you if you fulfill their needs of minimum, open to listen to them, and involve in decision making. Of course your company is yours, you can make it or break it. If you won't build that useful product today someone else will do it. You have to tell your team, your workmates that they are wonderful people and they are important for the company.

Your coworkers are stakeholders, give them power to experiment, allow them to fail, make them part of decision making, care for minimum, respect their autonomy, fall together as many times as it may require or happen and I am sure you will rise together. The success does not belongs to you alone. Everyone who works with you even that person who has made biggest mistake while building this company is part of your success. Mind it, his/her failure told you that things won't work in that certain  way. Share the credit with your fellow workers. And I am sure they won't be tired of promoting your brand free of cost. When stakeholders are happy you are a winner. Stakeholders are true brand ambassadors.

People performs at full potential when they do not need to worry for minimum but encouraged to strive for better. To encourage others you have to pay the price. Nothing comes free so not encouragements.

May be you can't hire as many resources as your competitor does. You are under a budget. But if you can hire few good fellows and build a bond with them I am sure together you can build a better business. A business of which you, your coworkers and customers will be proud of.

Trust building is first step of business branding a result of better productivity.
