The northern railway has launched Automatic Ticket Vending Machines, ATVMs. So next time when you plant to travel in a northern railway train aka lauh path gami – hindi for train use ATM like ATVM to get your ticket. This automatic ticketing system surely will give some relief to passengers from standing in long queues and will generate some added revenue to the railways. So it’s a win-win situation for both the consumer and the (elephant) railways.
1. Northern railways has enough passenger load, kindly reach to railways platform well before time of train arrival so you won’t get in hurry for withdrawing ticket from an ATVM.
2. Be in queue, respect the fellow passenger, who ahead in the queue.
3. If you are really in too much hurry can loss million dollar fortunes in a mater of minutes request gently to fellow passenger to get a ticket for you.
4. Take care for the elderly people and kids & ladies in the queue. Your human sense is worth a million pound. Have patience and wait for turn, if you show patience, sure others will. Remember Charity begins from home.
5. Protect the railway property and ATVM, do not damage it, it’s a national property and after all it’s purchased from the revenue earn from your previous journeys.
6. If an ATVM is not working report to concerned railway people, if the are not cooperating report the misbehavior to higher authorities, it’s your right. Be decent, wish you happy journey in Northern Railway.

- Buy smart card from smart card counter of a railways station listed above.
- The security deposit to buy smart card is Rs 50 which can be topped up with the minimum amount of Rs. 20/- and further in multiple of Rs. 50/- up to maximum limit of Rs. 1000/- at a time.
- You can not load your ATVM smart card for more than Rs 2000.
- The Northern offers a flat 5% concession to the passenger over and above the denomination of the Smart Card value as incentive. This is not available for Monthly Season Tickets/Quarterly Season Tickets.
- The ATVM Smart Card will be valid for a period of 1 year from the date of last recharge.
- Use ATVM to fetch platform tickets and second class tickets and MST/QST renewal.
- In case of any damage or lost card report immediately to concerned authority, so your card can be over rammed in data base. In such condition a fresh card shall be issued for a payment of Rs 10 only.
