Cost of Smartphone Notifications

Data is cheap now, in fact raw cheap if I compare it from ten years down the line. For the price of a meal or less you get Internet data for almost full month. ISPs has there own ways of making holes in every pocket. No one is spared. Data has become basic need of the times and ISPs making good profits. But question is how much data? Are we not overusing it. Shall there become a time when data will be in danger of becoming extinct and we will need to make campaigns same ways as we do it today for air, water or electricity? Time will give the answer.

Stories are served day and night and we are using data mindlessly without thinking how much we are paying for it. Android Smartphones has added opium to data consumption and Push Notifications given that extra mileage. Many smartphone users subscribe to notifications unknowingly. Once smartphone is hand you get many things which you want or don’t want. There is an impression that I am paying for data only, that too very small sum, smartphone I have bought on small EMI and watching videos is free. Let’s do it. It’s almost free. Having a smartphone is style statement, if you don’t have an smartphone, you are backward. Most of the times perceptions are those.

Man builds from perspectives and perceptions. Consuming data is fine till you need it but how much. If are consuming it because it's free, my dear friend you are at fault. Anything that come your way is not all time consumable. Anything that come your way and affects you is called pollution. Today, there is too much data pollution. In the mist of data you lag behind in creating things. Before you start creating there is new data, you get sank into it and leave the main task behind, i.e. ‘creativity’.

I deal with team of writers, designers, developers on day to day basis. Often I found one common thing in all, they are unable to follow instructions, not because they are incompetent but because they already has data to solve a problem. They count on Internet and personal creativity. They serve beautiful things but not new things. This is where I agree to disagree always.

Internet is good thing for gaining knowledge but you need to know what to consume and what not. Your creation will be result of what you have consumed from years. Free things are dangerous to consume. When you get a thing free you cannot make choices. You have to consume what is presented. And you will produce reflections of what you have consumed.

Nothing is free in this world. When you pay for a service you demand for quality. However, when there is no price attached you have to keep what is given.

Push notifications do not ask for your credit card. You get it free, you consume everything whether it fits to you are not. In return you spend big time on those websites, apps and videos. Sir Richard Branson says, ‘time is the new money’. If you are spending to much time on your smartphone you are paying dearly in terms of time. Its big time productivity killer. Consume data wisely.
